1. Script
Soon all phones might need to have replaceable batteries, at least if you're in Europe. The EU has approved a law that mandates that all phones, along with tablets, have an easily removable and replaceable battery. This is bad news for phone manufacturers as it will increase manufacturing complexity and give consumers less of an incentive to buy a new phone. The EU has that power, though; they already arguably forced Apple to switch from lightning to USB-C. Even if you're outside the EU, it may just be easier for major phone manufacturers to make the switch worldwide rather than make different phones for different markets. But keep in mind the law doesn't take effect until 2027, and there's no guarantee that deadline won't be extended. So you probably won't be opening the back of your phone for a few more years unless you have some destructive tendencies.

3. My story
Smartphones are evolving rapidly. Along with advanced features, they're becoming more sustainable. A recent law mandates removable and replaceable batteries, reducing electronic waste. It's a win for the environment, but phone makers are facing challenges. Manufacturing is getting trickier, and consumers might delay upgrades. The law's impact extends beyond its jurisdiction; global companies consider uniformity. Still, the law doesn't take effect until 2027. Will this deadline change? Only time will tell. For now, our beloved smartphones are on a path to greener, longer-lasting tech, ensuring we stay connected without compromising the planet.
