All dog owners, stop scrolling right now. I'm back with another puppy Parenthood tip. And this one is arguably the most important: pet insurance. When you bring home your happy, healthy puppy, you never expect the worst to happen to them. But working as an emergency veterinarian, I can promise you times like that may happen. And you never think it's going to come. What happens when that puppy you just adopted or bought gets parvo? Or gets hit by a car? Or needs surgery for a foreign body? Do you have thousands of dollars to cover those costs? I would say a lot of owners do not expect or prepare for the cost of emergency care. But that's where pet insurance comes in. Some pet insurance companies have even come out with Wellness plans. These plans will cover yearly vaccines and blood work. The one I use and trust for my boys is Pets best. Right now, I just have them on the accidents and illness plan. Because as a veterinarian, I get mostly free wellness care.
