번아웃이 와서, 나는 버거운 직장을 그만둘 마음의 준비가 되어 있었다. 근무 시간에서 유연성이 필요했다. 그래서 나는 탄력 근무제를 가진 새로운 직장으로 이직했다. 이 직장은 나에게 근무 시간을 스스로 정할 수 있게 해주었다. 이 새로운 직장에서 더 좋은 점은 긴 출퇴근이 필요 없다는 것이다. 내 핸드폰과 노트북만 준비 돼있으면 어디서든 일할 수 있다.

 

Feeling burned out, I was ready to quit my demanding job. I needed flexibility in working hours. So, I moved to a job with flexible work schedules. It allowed me to set my work hours. What's even better about this new job is no long commutes. I can work from anywhere as long as I have my cellphone and laptop handy.

오늘 직장에서는 계속되는 방해 때문에 감당이 안됐습니다. 어떤 사람들은 큰 소리로 전화통화를 하고 있었고, 다른 사람들은 업무와 무관한 주제로 수다 중이었습니다. 내 중요한 업무에서 진도가 안나가 힘겨웠습니다. 사무실에 혼자 남게 되니까, 금방 일을 마칠 수 있었습니다.

 

Today at work, I was overwhelmed by the constant distractions. Some were on loud phone calls while others chatted about non-work-related topics. I struggled to make progress on my important task. Once I was left alone in the office, I was able to get things done quickly.

A: 오늘도 컴퓨터 문제가 있었어?

B: 응, 있었어. 진짜 최악이었어.

A: 이번주 내내 계속 그랬지? 그지?

B: 맞아, 회의 중에 컴퓨터가 두 번이나 멈췄어.

A: 그러면 맨붕오잖아. 일에 영향을 주고 있다니까.

B: 완전. 이것 때문에 몇 시간을 날렸어.

A: 계속 이러면, 전산팀에 교체 요청해보자.

 

A: Did you have computer issues again today?

B: Yeah, I did. It was a disaster.

A: It kept happening all week, right?

B: Exactly, my computer froze twice during the meeting.

A: That's embarrassing. It's affecting our work.

B: Totally. I've lost hours on this.

B: If it keeps happening, let's ask the IT to get them replaced.
