외국어로 영어를 배우면서 가끔 웃긴 실수를 합니다. 직역하려고 하면 그런 일이 발생합니다. 제 모국어 에서는 말이 되지만, 영어에서는 아닙니다. 이들을 더 자연스럽게 들리게 만들려면, 원어민이 어떻게 표현하는지 배워야 합니다.

 

Learning English as my second language, I sometimes make funny mistakes. It happens when I try literal translations. They make sense in my language but not in English. To make them sound more natural, I have to learn how native speakers express them.

최근에 나는 새로운 피자 맛집을 찾았습니다. 거기서 피자에 감자튀김을 사이드로 주문했습니다. 창가에 앉았습니다. 서버가 곧 가져다 주었고 맛도 좋았습니다. 영수증을 확인해보니 가격도 합리적이었습니다.

 

I recently found my new favorite pizza place. I ordered pizza with fries on the side there. I sat by the window. The server brought them over shortly and they tasted good. I checked the receipt and the price was also reasonable.

B: "무슨 발표인지 들은거 있어?"

A: "많이는 아닌데, 오늘부터 새로운 상사가 올 것 같아. 그리고 아마 많이 바뀌는게 있을 것이고."

 

A: "I ran into a guy from HR. He has a very important announcement to make."

B: "Did you get any hint on what it is?"

A: "Not much, but I guess we’re gonna get a new boss starting today. And he’s probably gonna shake things up a bit."
