When someone is exiting a relationship, when someone is saying they can't be with you, you have to be really honest with yourself and say, "Okay, they're telling me that they can't be with me because of whatever reason, but they're telling me how much they love me, and how they truly want to be with me, but they... I'm the love of their life." But you have to ask yourself, "If I was them, and I loved me the way they say they do, what would I be doing right now? What sacrifice would I be willing to make? What compromise would I be willing to make?" And if they're not making that, then you have to say, "They either don't love me as much as they're saying they do, or we have completely different standards for how much we're willing to fight for each other." Either one is bad.

• Exiting a relationship: The process of ending a romantic relationship.
• Be really honest with yourself: To confront and acknowledge one's true feelings and thoughts.
• Love of my life: A term used to describe a person who is incredibly important or the most loved in one's life.
• Sacrifice: Giving up something valued for the sake of other considerations.
• Compromise: An agreement in a relationship where both parties give up something to reach a mutually beneficial decision.
• Fight for each other: To make efforts and take actions to maintain and support a relationship.

 

3.    My Story
A few months ago, I ended things with my boyfriend. Over time, my feelings for him had faded, and I had to be really honest with myself. It wasn't easy, but it was clear we weren't fighting for each other the way a relationship needs. I realized that love involves sacrifice and compromise, and these were missing in our relationship. Ending it felt like the right decision. It was a tough realization, but it affirmed my belief in the importance of matching words with actions and having mutual standards in a relationship.
